Greetings... i''ve attempted to install DX9 by using both the SDK and the stand-alone DX package... I notice the same sequence each time...the installer seems to "stall" at d3dref8.dll, then up pops an error statement saying "Direct X did not copy a required file." After clicking "ok" im told "install failed." any suggestions? running XP with all updates. Yes i do believe 8.1 sdk has been completely removed, but how might i verify for sure? thanks in advance for any assistance Matt

This can mean one of two things.

1) You have a corrupted download of the DirectX 9 SDK.

2) You have a virus scanner running in the background that is preventing changes to system files.

In the beta, this would occur if you were running a DX8 sample that used the reference rasterizer during install (a bad idea anyway), but that has since been fixed.

Follow-up: Why would the stand-alone version of DirectX 9 include the reference rasterizer? That doesn't make sense.
