What trackers are available for DOS/WIN? Which would you recommend for creating some muzac for a game? Any other suggestions for a muzac newbie?
In the DOS arena, you have trackers going back to the first days of PC tracking, from Impulse Tracker(no longer updated?), Fasttracker, Protracker, Screamtracker...
If you can work in windows, do it. Ie, use ModPlug Tracker. It has excellent sound quality, is versatile, and..well..is windows based.

Get Renoise (www.renoise.com). This is by far the best tracker I''ve ever used, and I''ve been tracking for the last 10 years. It''s just like FT2, but with a countless number of additional useful features.
Depending on what format you want to use in your game will determine what tracker you will need to use.
Modplug Tracker (http://www.modplug.com) is probably the most dynamic of trackers allowing you to write in and convert between XM, IT, S3M and MOD format music all of which are supported by FMOD (http://www.fmod.org) engine which I believe is free for freeware use.
Renoise I think (correct me if I am wrong) will save either in Native format, or XM format. It can import IT, MOD and old NoiseTrekker formats too.
MadTRacker is another tracker though I don''t know much about it as modplug suffices for me.
As a newbie, I wouldn''t bother trying to get the old trackers like FASTRACKER2 or IMPULSETRACKER2 to work in DOS if you have a Win2000 or XP system.

Even ''back in the day'', I couldnt get my DOS based trackers to have the sound quality exemplified by the windows based trackers.
