Quake 2 Engine

Hello all!!! I decided to try and figure out how the Quake 2 engine works. I can hear you all laughing and falling out of your seats and such. Lets just suppose I DO have the skill set to tackle such a project. I''m not going to go off on a rant naming the projects I''ve worked on and the stuff I can and can''t do, cause that really isn''t going to change anything. All I was wondering was if someone had a basic overview of the structure of the project. I have it compiling and all, I just was wondering were the major components are located. I''m pretty sure I''m ready to tackle this project, over alot of time, but I would like a push in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Basically all I''m asking is if any one could help me get up to speed on the project. Not a step by step walkthrough of every single part of the engine. Just a basic overview to help me get familiar with it.
You might want to ask this question in Quake 2 mod community.
QuakeSRC may have some stuff that is helpful to you
