Which of these should I buy, or is there a reason to have more than 1 of them: - Advanced Animation and Rendering Techniques - 3D Computer Graphics ( 3rd Edition ) - Computer Graphics: Principles.... (Foley) I already have Real Time Rendering. I saw 3D CG at the book store, looked like a good read. Thx.

Hi,
Alan Watt is my lecturer and if you want to know which Watt book to go for go for the 3D Computer Graphics (3rd Edition)
a lot of people say good stuff about the Foley and Van Damm one but I''ve not really read it and it is a little bit older (Alan''s 3rd edition only came out this year)
so I''d go for that one...
it also has a cd wioth some example images on it...
hope this helps.
e-mail me if you have any more questions...

There''s a good book coming out soon called Advanced 3d Game Programming with DirectX 7 by Adrian Perez. Looks promising. Of course that is DirectX specific, non of the others you mentioned are API specific.

I really recommend Advanced Animation and Rendering Techniques but that''s the only one of his I''ve seen. It requires background knowledge of quite a bit of 3d and math but explains some really useful stuff without you having to plough through chapters and chapters of platform-specific code or the usual introductions to matrices.

The only problem with that book is that it is really really old.
The 3d graphics (3rd edition) is a lot newer book so covers all the old stuff but a lot of the newer stuff that has only just been developed too.

Check out my shadows page
and send me some feedback
