Problem with big textures

Hello! I want to put hi-res background picture in my game menu. Not all cards supports big textures (i am using two big triangles making rectangle as background primirive). Should i cut my big texture to a smaller pieces and then use them to texture smaller rectangles? Or maybe there is simpler way. Thank you for your answers.

Hehe, been there, done that...

You will indeed have to split up your large bitmap at load time into a batch of 256x256 textures, and just as many quads.

Thankfully you can look at this site for working code to start with.

Note that one small error snuck into his code: To avoid any troubles, make sure you use your active Backbuffer''s D3DFORMAT for all surfaces involved in the process. Anything else is asking for trouble. (Trust me on that one!)
