DX9 Vertex Shader 2.0-3.0 in Software

In DX9 are the Vertex Shader 1.0-3.0 in Software avalible.(SW Vertex Processing) Has someone used the VS 3.0 allready ???(for what are they good ?) Is Displacement Mapping avalible in Software too ?????

Back in DX8 anyway, VS1.0 and 1.1 ran rather efficiently in software. Pixel shading is another story though.
Vertex Shaders will still run very well on the CPU, Pixel Shaders don''t seem to work as well

My experience that VS2 is pretty slow in SW. A (VERY) Simple shader to transform coords is approximately 1.5x slower in SW than the EXACT SAME VS code in VS1.1. Obviously you would probably not use VS2 for such a simple thing at the moment (limited HW support is one good reason) but I did it for experimental purposes.
