projected triangle area

Hi , i need to find the area of a projected triangle, i don''t want to use glfeedback buffer, so i was thinking about a solution , i would like to have some feedback, anyway here it is suppose i ''ve extracted the viewing matrix, obtained the near lane, if i would project every triangle''s vertex against this plane and compute the are using these projected vertices ( spelling? ) would it be the projected area for this triangle ? sorry for my english
