Ellipsoid - Plane Collision

Hi everyone, in my engine i''m using Sphere - Plane collision detection to test if my camera is hitting a wall. It works great the problem is the sphere being equal in all dimensions, the taller I make the cameras sphere, the further away I''m hitting the wall. I''ve heard that if I use an ellipsoid instead I can scale the vertices somehow using the camera radii, and test for collisions using a unit sphere. How do I do this? Thanks in advance. Lukerd.
