In an attempt to further my game development knowledge I downloaded and went through the source code for Quake 2. I was wondering if anyone had comments on the coding style and general design of the code. Something beyond "Carmack is God" would be useful. Also, does anyone know of any other publicly released game code that is a good example of sytle and design? Thanks. Halo7

Its been a while since ive looked at it, but I remember it was very hard to understand. It isnt commented much, and the functions/variables names dont say much...

Its been a while, maybe I would understand it better now, i think ill take a look at it again actually.

With that said, its obviously good code, people dont pay thousands of dollar for the engine for nothing...

from what I remember of the q2 source, it''s not very well structured. Sure it works, but from a software engineering standpoint, it''s not very well written.

If you want an example of a game well written using oop, I suggest having a look at the halflife sdk.
