Best object formats for a game

Hi, I m currently starting a game project and I would like to know what is the best file format for 3d scenes,objects and characters ? I thought about 3ds, md3, ... Is there any good tools to manipulate these ones ? thx Sinn

I like Wavefront''s .obj format for development work. The final format you use for a game release would likely be a binary format that stores exactly the information you need.
