I was looking around for a format to use for my 3D models, and I found this ASE format.. it would be really easy to write a loader.. almost too easy. Am I missing something? Is there any reason to not use this? All i need is the model, and its materials/textures, maybe some animation. Anyone?

If I rember quite well ASE only exports primitive data, like the vertices and normals tops... am not sure about, cameras, lights, animation info...

A better text format is the the ALIAS WAFEFRONt (MAYA) file format. It''s MAYA native format I might be wrong. Though both 3ds and MAYA support the file for sure...

Please do not misinform people. ASE supports materials, sub-materials, lights, cameras, animations, and quite everything you''d need.

Its real drawback is (well that''s also its advantage) it''s an ASCII format, so big models can take 10s of Mbs..
