Mesh/X File problems

I''ve been trying to take a simple run animation from 3dmax and incorporate it into a direct3d program and i''m having some problems. I''m using the panda xporter for 3dmax to export my .x file. This seems to work fine and I can use the mview supplied with directx to look at my lovely animation and its all good. Now as for getting it into one of my programs i''m not having so much luch. I''m using the game core that comes with the programming role playing games book as it seems well written and up to now has not failed me. If i just exported the mesh without animation it works fine and it renders great. Now when i export it with the animation it all goes a bit pear-shaped and its not very nice. All the objects are misshapen (they do seem to move correctly though). Any ideas? I''d like to know what mview does that the game core doesn''t!
