Hi, I''m not sure if this is the right forum to post this in but anyhow. A friend wants an opinion of ''which techonlogy from the Open Source market will have the biggest impact over the next 10 years''. Of course you''ll need to know about Open Source technologies but if anyone has an opinion please give it and I''ll pass it on. OMG. It''s him again. I mentioned your friend''s question to one of my friends, but he didn''t understand the question, and asked me to ask you if you could ask your friend if he can elaborate his question and then if you get back to me with what your friend says, I''ll read it and pass it on to my friend so he can help answer your friend''s question.

I''ll give you guys an example. For instance .net is a technology that is having a rather large impact at the moment. What he''s asking is what technologies that the Open Source market develops will have an impact in the ways .net has, in other words what''s the next thing that''s going to rock the world like .net did but not be developed by a corperation.

I was just trying to give a damn example. I hate .net to. I just thought it might help explain the question.

I don''t think there is any *one* technology or software that will have the greatest impact over any period of time. In general, OSS will completely change the face of the tech industry, but that cannot be attributed to just one piece of software. For example, Linux and *BSD will change the OS market as they become more user-friendly (I''m running Slackware 8.0 btw). Mozilla will probably begin to be a major player for web browsing, gcc for software development, etc, etc, ad infinitum.

I agree with you. Although he asked the question and I''m just repeating it for him like he requested so if you want to complain then do it to him, not me
