3D map help needed
I am just starting work on a 3D racer using D3DIM, I originally planned to use 256x256 (or maybe bigger) grayscale heightmaps for the landscape, but when I got around to implementing it I found that I had way too many vertices (256*256) and indices (255*255*6) for the landscape, so I was wondering what a good method would be of storing a track for a race game. Should I use 1 large object or several small objects to represent the track???
I''m really stuck.
Make a heightmap as you said, but then scan through it and delete any vertices that are not drastically different in height than those around it.
