Is Linux Better than Windows for a server's OS?
Well?

No one ever knew what REALY went on in that head of his...
In my personal opinion, yes, generally. But that depends on a lot of factors. Put it this way - if I wanted to set up a web or database server for an important task right now, I would use a Linux (prob Red Hat) setup if possible. But that''s just me - I''ve had (good) experience doing that. There''s plenty of reasons why you might want to use a Windows setup instead (as long as you use NT/2K/XP - never use Win9x for a server box)
Good, I was just wondering why I should spend all that money on a Windows Server OS when I can do the same thing for less.?

For your personal use, *definitely* yes, but in the real world that can differ. Remember, even if you save $4000 by using "free" software, you''re still going to pay for a "more qualified" admin to run it ($20,000 more per year might offset the initial $4000 savings). The hard truth is that running a Linux system properly is a lot harder than running a Windows system properly (which has to do both with the OSes themselves and the education programs available). Simply put you''ll pay more for a "linux guru" then for a "windows guru".
But why do you have to have an admin do it when you can be the admin yourself? I''m just wanting to set up a server to test out MMOMPRPGs when I get around to making one.
The server is gonna have at least 6 gigs of RAM, 2 Athlon MPs (the latest I can get that works with Tyan motherboards, a matrox g200 video card, (don''t know if I''ll get a sound card to put on it), and at least a terabye of hard drive space set up on a RAID system.

I would have to say Linux is better. I have a server that stays up for years without rebooting - try that on a windows machine. Also, windows machines seem to be targetted a lot more with viruses. But, you may find windows is far easier to manage. So, in the end, it''s your choice.
