Prerendered FPS

I am creating a 2D RTS game. I need to know what is a good frame rate for the prerendered animated units.

haha. i just remembered that FPS also stands for first person shooter. I meant frames per second.

It probably depends on the size of the units (more pixels often mean you need more frames to make it look smooth), and what you personally think of what''s smooth enough. I made a little rpg a few months ago, and I was already quite satisfied with an animation consisting of only 2 different frames. I would say, just try it out yourself. Start with 2 frames for example, and if that doesn''t look nice, just keep on adding extra frames until it looks good (enough).
