Collision detection in 2D game

How can I scan through a texture and get for each pixel the correspoding color and the alpha value of the texture so I will be able to store them in an array and use it for collision detection? If anyone knows a way to make collision detection using alpha channels or a good tutorial,please let me know. Thanks in advance
