i need to determine the time for an application. but i can''t use the system time because the user can manipulate it very easy. because it''s an internet app anyway, i wondered if there is an internet service that i can use to query the exact time? preferably something that i can connect to using TCP.. thanks ridcully

The Daytime service is a well known protocol for transfering time. It operates on the well-known port of 13/tcp or 13/udp, and transfers time information in a human readable format. See RFC 867 for more detail.

RFC 868 gives details on the time protocol that gives the time in a more machine compatible format.
