Is this a good book to start learning D3D? can anyone point out the pros and cons of buying this book or reccomend another http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0761531912/ref=ase_gametutorials-20/002-6105658-7125628?v=glance&s=books ----- Losec ----- [edited by - Losec on February 7, 2003 7:30:12 PM]

I''m a third year engineering student just completing a third year project which I''ve done in Direct3D. My advice would be that unless you''ve already done so you should start with OpenGL. That''s not because I think it''s in any way better or easier, but because there appears to be a LOT more documentation for it. It''s a lot easier to find reasonable quality free open gl tutorials than it is direct3D. It''s also easier to find good quality books. Those prima tech books are "ok" but you''re better off w/ a book published by a reputable publisher (e.g Wiley, Addison Wesley, Prentice Hall) and sadly there aren''t any of those on Direct3D. I''m sure others here will disagree but that''s just my experience.
That book is fine to begin learning with.

You might also consider "Multiplayer Game Programming" by Todd Barron.

I liked it because it covered more than just Direct3D. It also covered network, audio and input code at a beginner level.
