Has anyone implemented a hex or iso based map editor? I''m running into issues where I need to highlight the edges of the hexes for certain functionality as the mouse moves over each of the hexes.

My suggestion would be to make a sort of 'mask' like this and check for the cursor position relative to the mask, and move a border around according to the color under the cursor's (x, y) position. For example, if I move the cursor into the red area, then move the tile border up 1 and left 1.

I'm tired and can't seem to explain anything in depth at the moment. If you need further help, just ask and I'd be happy to help you... tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip Faze. I actually thought of a method very similar to that and it works well. Another problem I''m having is creating what I''m calling "brushes" because they are going to be like a larger/smaller paint brush in a paint program. This will allow the user to fill a group of hexes with one click rather than clicking on individual hexes. So I have a group of hexes I want to fill in but I want to draw a border line around the outside of these hexes so the user will know which hexes are being filled in. I was thinking of ways of calculating this dynamically so it can be done at runtime but the brush dimensions that I want to use vary so much between different sizes that that method wouldn''t work to great.
