How do you animate in code with x-files in C++

Im looking for a way to animate in the tiny.x file that comes with direct x. How can I read the x-file so that i can rotate its parts by code rather than using animation keys. I have been looking at the coding of the file and it is set up by a hierachy of body parts which is exactly what i want but is there a way to get pointers to those body parts using direct x calls instead of writing my own x-file reader? Also if there is a good tuturial on animation keys that you guys know of that would be helpful too .
