Turning V-Sync Off Via Code

i have searched google for this, i was going to search these forums though that features is down. how can i turn vertical-sync off from within my code ? i know i can do it from display properties, i want to be able to do it from my program. also the fact that the tab in the display properties on my computer crashes so...

It depends on what API you're using. Under DirectDraw7, you can use a flag when you call IDirectDrawSurface::Flip() to get rid of the VSync. Under Direct3D, you also can set a flag when you call IDirect3DDevice:: Present().

Under OpenGL, you may give a look to the WGL_EXT_swap_control (or XGL_EXT_swap_control if you're using *nix) extension.

Note that these tricks won't change your settings but only affect your application behavior.

You should perhaps try to fix it instead of avoiding the problem.
