surface textures

ok i cant seem to get a surface to look as if it were a glossy shinny metal. i would like to know how i make textures do that and look like that rxample of te effect i want is the look a ship in earth and byond has.... almost like a mirror but dont reflect anything ??? thx for the help Im a Idiot Savant without the Savant

Not sure what programs you are using, but here are a few links to tuts on metal skinning. Most of them are for counterstrike modeling, but they still apply.

well i was wanting to know how to do it so that i can use it in directx. i can make really nice stuff in 3ds max but i dont know what is needed to get dx to render objects in a glossy shinny way like in earth and beyond
