I''m really curious about this... Well, when an applet is loaded under a java enabled browser, it is not allowed to do some tasks, such as write to a file. And that''s because of a security manager, i suppose. *But*, the method System.setSecurityManager() is still there; so how does it manages to make sure that i won''t overload its security manager?? Thanks, Victor.

You could always check the docs...

If there is a security manager already installed, this method first calls the security manager''s checkPermission method with a RuntimePermission("setSecurityManager") permission to ensure it''s ok to replace the existing security manager. This may result in throwing a SecurityException.
