i was gonna say: there has got to be some ASM for dummies book or some other under-$20 less-than-200-page book at your local bookstore

but asm is probably way to complicated to fit into a little book

try googleing, theres gotta be a site on the theory and stuff behind asm and how to start

I got my first assembly book for $2 on an office depot clearance table. That was a great buy.

Anyway, google for "Art of Assembly Language". There''s a great, free online book about x86 assembly under that name.
