ID3DXAnimationController, how does it work?

I''ve recently updated my code to DX9. My SkinnedMesh code now uses ID3DXAnimationController but I am having trouble creating new Animation Sets for blending animations together. The help files have very little information on the subject. If you have had any experience with SkinnedMeshes under DX9, I would like hear your views as it is driving me nuts.
