The problem is that the Microsoft C# compiler makes use of features present in the Microsoft .NET Framework. I''m not sure if you can compile C# programs without the .NET Framework installed - at least not at this time.

The .NET framework can be installed on any windows system > win95. VISUAL STUDIO.NET needs to be installed on Win2k or WinXPro. You can download the command line tools for free from Microsoft''s website.

Hm.

The .NET Framework SDK runs on:

Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0 (SP 6a required)
Microsoft Windows® 2000 (SP 2 recommended)
Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Source:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?url=/downloads/sample.asp?url=/msdn-files/027/000/976/msdncompositedoc.xml&frame=true

Solution: Get XP - I mean, developing with 98 or ME - is this supposd to be funny?
