"DirectX Surface Unavailable"

I was curious is any one has ever some version of Direct3D generate a black screen with the text "Surface Unavailable" on it. (It''s a frustrating bug in MOO3). AFAIK DirectX never displays any text on the screen* (only via the debug stream) so it definately sounds like the MOO code.

[* Unless you enable certain hidden debugging features - if the text is yellow and in the top left corner of the screen, there''s a very remote chance you''ve somehow enabled that stuff - though usually you can only get it by adding some new registry keys to the DirectX group]

Yes, I''m aware of thread, I was looking for some confirmation that Dx never does that in it''s own.

What is even more bizarre, if you hold down alt when you switch back to the game, and then click on the screen, it comes back to life (with a lot of artifacts).

Has anyone ever observed this behavior in any other (full-screen) Dx program?
