3D Help

Recommended Posts

1- A program like 3d max is used for modeling, animation, and NON-real time rendering.Non real time rendeing means to render the animation of time 1 minute in more than one minute (can extend to days). This gives you the ability to render the animations with a very high quality and use effects that can''t be used in real time rendering (D3D and openGL),radiosity, use high poly models and so on.
2-In D3D rendering is a real time rendering .this means that you render animation of 1 minute in one minute,so you have to use low poly models, can''t use radiosity, effects and rendering quality not as in max.
3- to see an example of the difference between realtime and non real time rendering ,see the videos of warcraft3 (rendered with max) and the Game itself (rendered with D3D).

Hi,

MAX is used for creating (modelling) 3D objects, animations and if you like rendering them as a set of frames. The renderer is a scanline renderer (i.e. renders a horizontal line at a time) and I *think* it is uses ray-tracing which is NOT real-time ... yet.

D3D is used for creating 3D programs which may or may not be real-time. Generally it is a program library with a number of functions and interfaces for creating 3D applications. In other words you could (if you wanted to) create a MAX program using D3D but you can''t create a 3D application with MAX.
