Getting the Read/Write file pointer

Hi there all, I have a program that can only use low level i/o calls, like open() read() write() etc.. All of these functions take int file descriptors. I need what system call returns the current position of the read/write file pointer. I know ftell() will do this however I need a function that takes an int file descriptor and returns the current position of the pointer! Anyone know!?
