Terrain Geo Mip Mapping?

Im kinda clueless about this, but how would I go about geo mip mappping? I just wan''t a short explanation on how it works.. Thx

Very roughly:
start with a block of your heightmap e.g 32x32.
Average the height of each 2x2 section of this, to get a 16x16 block.
Repeat until you get to a 2x2 block.

For colours etc you can do the same if you have a rgb colour per vertex.

Like I said, very basic. Can go into more detail if you want - email if you like.
