Does anyone know how to obtain ARGB bit masks from DirectGraphics (DX8) surfaces? In DirectDraw (DX7) i could obtain them from the DDSURFACEDESC structure but in DX8, this structure doesn't contain any info on bit masks... [edited by - spider907 on March 25, 2003 5:54:06 AM]

The layout of the bits is implied by the name of the format.

For example D3DFMT_X1G6R5B5 tells you the layout would be: xggggggrrrrrbbbbb

As for how to convert, I use a lookup table which contains the formats our engine will be using along with relevent information for individual component manipulation.
