Sound library recommendations?

For my current project, I need a sound library which will allow me to specify simply the frequencies and volumes of tones to be played, so I can call something like: SetVolume(0, 127); SetFrequency(0, 10000); This will produce a tone of frequency 10000Hz with volume 127 on channel 0. Any reccomendations? All the libraries I have seen allow for playback of .wav files etc, but I cannot find a way to get this lower-level access. http://users.ox.ac.uk/~univ1234

DirectSound. Actually use DirectMusic. Create a Performance and a Loader object to initialse the sytem. The use lpDAloader->LoadObjectFromFile to load a wav into a Segement object.

At that stage you can do lots of things upon the segment.

The Docs are a pain in the neck but the code to do it is about a screen big.
