Loading Bitmaps

Is their any tutorials or articles which can provide accurate information on how to load a 16-bit bitmap for the Borland Turbo C++ Compiler? Most games that i see do all of their graphics in the coding (which i don''t wanna do because im horrible at that stuff) and the tutorials i have seen either are innacurrate or have a header file which i do not have (Extremely annoying).
