I think I''m just going to use the dialog at the beggining approach and then save the config to a file so subsequent runs of the game will not have to ask the player to specify a renderer.
In the case that the user does not know what renderer to choose, I''ll probably default it to D3D (once I learn it ), since the platform is primarily win32.
