I''m pretty sure you can use lpdd4 as long as you link dxguid.lib and ddraw.lib to your project.

I''ve decided to skip DirectDraw altogether and am currently trying to learn Direct3D. *shrug* I wish I could use my TOTWGPG book to help me, but I figure that in the end, I''ll be glad I went with 3D (to make 2D games) instead. Just a thought, anyway. There are a lot of good D3D tutorials for DX8 and 9 if you''re interested. I believe two links are;

www.andypike.com
and
www.drunkenhyena.com

The book may very well come in useful even if you aren''t using directdraw... I''ve used my direct3d book numerous times even though I use opengl

Well, there is other stuff in the book that is worthwhile... AI, physics, and other topic basics are addressed; it''s just that most of the book will be "thrown away" some of the concepts, like understanding back buffers are useful too, I suppose.
