Having scanned this forum I realized that DirectPlay is quite a deserted landscape here. Nevertheless this question: I studied the DirectX tutorials and succeeded in setting up a local multiplayer game. I realized this by giving 255.255.255.255 as IP address and starting a few instances of the very same game. Everything worked fine. But how about communicating via internet? Would this be as easy? And what if you want to use a lobby lauchend application?

I think that topics like DirectPlay are talked about in the multiplayer game section, but don''t quote me on that.
