creating textures with photoshop 5.5

ive tried making textures with photoshop but they look terrible... i want to make detailed textures with photoshop, anyone know of any good tutorials out there that can get me started?

I''d suggest you buy a Wacom drawing tablet. It''s pretty useful for texturing stuff from scratch.

Alternatively, you could try basing your textures on photos or things you find in Google''s image search. You can see a relevant tutorial here.
