Just curious... how much extra work do you have to do to get stuff running on, for example, ATI and Nvidia? I have just downloaded an ATI shadow volume demo, and it has some serious rendering glitches on my GeForce4 (shadows not shown, and then some really impressive z-fighting). I figure that technically, the GeForce4 and the ATI9700 support pretty much the same feature set so it ought to work fine. I guess what I want to know is, even if you check for device caps for some features, are there a lot of differences in implementation that you have to code around even when the features are supported? Learning to fly is easy, but as a tortoise, the landings are really rough.
