Using OpenGL with Java

u can also try Java3D.. theres an SDK for directX as well as OpenGL... choose the opengl version its a bit odd compared to the usual GL programming coz its more like an abstraction of the api. like openscenegraph. but its worth a shot.

i think C++ works better coz at the moment, Java is still byte-code based. so the additional level of abstraction does limit performance somehow. besides, the libraries have been more stable and developed longer for the C/C++ language too

OpenGL is a 3d API. You could make 2d games with it, but you''ll be using 3d graphics and math which is much less intuitive for beginners. You''re probably better off using a 2d graphics library. The JDK has one built in called (drum roll) the Java 2d API, and there are probably a ton of 3rd party libraries available.
