Do you need to relock surface in system memory?

I understand the need to lock a surface that is in video memory, but after I lock and unlock a SMEM surface once, can I just keep writing to the *pBits. Thanks, Brian

Microsoft says not to do that. However, it has been known to work. Your mileage may vary. It''s probably not a good idea, though.
It''ll explode on some combinations of CPUs and chipsets. Please lock and unlock as you need it, don''t carry the pointer around.
