House of the dead + Depth?

I''ve played Jurassic Park, and several of the House of the Dead (lightgun arcade) games and think that they are really enjoyable (esp. J.Park). One of the things that I particularly enjoy about these games: 1. The (often visually enhanced) excitement of the enemy attacks. There are many different enemies, some attack you very quickly others give you more time to kill them. And they appear in different places (ie. ie. bats usually attack from above etc.). The bosses are especially stunning, they are tough, and the way that they attack is visually stunning.. ie. the T-Rex chases you, and can break holes in walls. they often come out of nowhere, and you have to shoot their weakspots Quickly. Can this excellent approach be applied to other types of games? Ie. Games where the player has freedom of movement, or strategy games, or games where the enemy has artificial intelligence rather than just being an "interactive cut-scene". I can see such a thing being possible in a Half-Life style game, although the gameplay mechanics aren''t quite the same (ie. you can shoot all the time in Half-Life).

You just answered your own question. An action game, especially a FPS, would be great for this kind of suspenseful, action-packed game. However you also should check out Alone in the Dark 4. You may find this game has what you''re looking for.
