smooth scrolling + opengl + basic tile engine

Skip down to the end if you dont feel like reading the entire story to my question. As my title implies, Ive made a very basic tile engine in opengl. So far im able to load images in and create tiles out of them. The next task Ive given myself is to enable smooth scrolling so i can make worlds much larger, I tried using glTranslatef but it is not smooth. The last column start moving then the next and so on, leaving me with black strips inbetween the columns when they move. I would be grateful if anyone could direct me to a good tutorial on smooth scrolling in opengl, thanks. ,Matt -= kill one your a murderer, kill thousands your a conquerer =-

Well my textures are 128 by 128 and I have a geforce4 ti4200, so I dont think that is the problem. Also I have all my drivers updated.

Thanks for trying to help, it turns out that I was making to scroll too slowly and when I increase it, there are no more artifacts. Once again thanks for trying
