skybox clipping my view distance!

Ok in order that the far corner of my skybox is visible, I need to have the skybox x so that 3x*x <= clipdistance*clipdistance. But, doesn''t this lead to the skybox itself clipping a large amount of my terrain? For example, with the far clip plane set at 100, the skybox will be 57.735. But doesn''t that mean that the skybox will be in front of any objects that are further than 58 units from me but closer than 100? In other words, isn''t the skybox covering up a large (42%!!!) portion of my world that would otherwise be drawn? Also, this means that the clip distance when you look at a corner of the skybox is much further away then when you look at a skybox wall straight on. People use skyboxes all the time though, so what is the workaround? Or do you just let the box clip your world like crazy?

Thing is you turn off Z-buffering and draw the skybox(plane) first and have it follow the camera ... after drawing the skybox(plane) enable z-buffering.
oooooooooooooooooooooooo
