Good Book on COM?

Recommended Posts

Hi people. Can someone recommend a good book on COM? I know it means Component Object Model, and Windows uses it like OOP (even just a little similar...). However, I''d like to get an elaborate but to the point eplanation on what it is and how it is used. Thanks in advance.

There are some - no name right now, but look for "Don Box" as the author.

WRONG. COM is a component model, this is more abstract than OOP. With your definition, OOP is like structured programming (even just a LITTLE similar). Component Models are way more abstract than regular OOP. This is why COM and CORBA are around.

Here are two excellent books about COM architecture and ATL.

Inside COM (Programming Series) by Dale Rogerson

Developer''s Workshop to COM and ATL 3.0 by Andrew Troelsen
