FreeBSD - and why I'm switching to it.

Well, here are the reasons... - FreeBSD is much more stable than XP Pro. - FreeBSD is much faster than XP Pro. - FreeBSD is FREE. - FreeBSD has a great community for help and bug fixes. - FreeBSD has Linux emulation abilities to run Linux software. - FreeBSD sysinstall gives you complete control over what will be in your distro and how it will run. That''s just a few reasons...I actually can hardly run XP on my desired laptop do to a virul infection. Peace. "Few creatures of the night have captured our imagination like vampires..." Why not linux? Could you give some reasons? I was considering FreeBSD too but I choosed Slackware. (I''ll try FreeBSD once I have a new hdd)
Are you going to use it as a desktop machine or a server?

Why would you choose Linux? so you can have kernel panics? so you can have core dumps? so you can have seg faults? BSD just seems to work better than Linux. They have a unified vision of where they want to go and control of whats going into the operating system. Its not a mess that Linux is.

Just a desktop machine. I chose FreeBSD over linux for the stability reasons - since I will be using FreeBSD for developement purposes.

Wow, you must have some shitty hardware then or something. Either that or you tried a really crappy distro. I only rarely have problems like this (I''ve only had kernel panics, for example, when I was using a distro that for some reason didn''t install itself correctly). As for core dumps, I have never had one, and I''ve used linux since 2000.

And for another reason why I still use linux above FreeBSD: I just plain like it better, and it has better nVidia graphics card support

Seriously, there''s no reason to debate in here between BSD/Linux/whateverix. I mean, honestly, it''s more a matter of preference than anything else. I prefer Linux, you prefer BSD. Done.
