another fog question...

The rendering of fog, depends on your implementation.
As far as I know, there is no method for setting the fog mode explicit, maybe with a fog-Hint, or an extension.

Another approach would be a vertex-shader that writes the fog-coordinate. This can be used for many more advanced fx, like volume fog.
