Game Engines
I've been investigating and trying to create games for a couple of years, but I never get very far, as I don't have much time and by the time I produce anything of worth the technology has advanced so far its not funny.
What I need is a game engine that I can use to easily create Adventure/RPG/puzzle games with. Any sugguestions are welcome. I've looked on Google, but didn't find anything that looked right for me.
I need a Windows based solution, anything is considered, although perferably not too low level.
thanks
Sam

A mate of mine began using that a couple of weeks after i started working on my engine. 6 weeks later i was sitting rendering boxes, albeit textured and with heirarchical links and collision detection etc but he had a shoot em up running. bah!
I wouldn''t even try to compete with technology thats out there at the moment, design and build an engine then when its running get it running stable and fast. Then have a look at bolting on some of the new tech, most of it''s just shader stuff anyway.

Try www.3drad.com. 3drad seems limited in what it can do, but it''s actually the best game engine I''ve come across. There are a million ways to do things that aren''t implemented, and if you buy it once you get free lifetime upgrades.

Maybe start with a bit more realistic game designs? I don''t know of a single bedroom coded RPG seen through to completion.

LOL most of the 8 bit rpg computer games were coded in bedrooms.
But I agree really. Make the game you want to do simple or plan it out better than you have been doing.
the engine I would use is called qube.

What you need is patients. It takes a long time to gain the amount of skill to do such a thing. Devotion, skill and patients.

hmmm... I tried Qube once, but all the demos and stuff ran ugly-slow on my computer, and when I went through a couple of tutorials, those ran ugly-slow too... so I got rid of it...

Don''t worry about technology. Of all the time you will spend designing and implementing your game, not much of it will be spent doing the graphics engine (unless you''re doing a really simple game).
Therefore, design your game to be as independent of the graphics/sound/input as possible, so that you can port your game to newer APIs in the future, but you can still finish your game.
