Just use a search engine like www.google.ca "free 3D model software" or some such or you can try www.download.com in the graphics section you''ll find a selection of programs that may suit your needs. It''s not hard to find. The hard part is trying to figure out how to use them :-)

there''s a free maya out too now... mmm maya
Truespace has a vary nice interface, and the price of ts3 is hard to beat (free). I use ts4, and my only complaint is the pethetically small number of formats it can export to, which can be a big pain if the engine you''re making models for needs a format it doesn''t support.

Wings 3D a good, 100% free opensource 3D modeler. Unfortuanately all it does well is modeling. There is some basic UV mapping but it''s not great and there is no animation, no renderer, etc. It is a small download and free so you might as well check it out. The interface is way better than Blender''s and it''s a better modeler than MilkShape is. It won''t beat out 3DS Max or Maya but it''s more usable than Maya PLE or GMax (which can really only be used for learning or modding.)
3d Canvas - incredibly easy to use - it has a drag and drop system which makes it really easy to learn - and its powerful too - binary operations, scripting, polygon optimisation and reduction, plugins, sweep creator... the lot.
I get the feeling its made in Visual Basic but its very good - about ten import output file types including directx .x files.

There''s a free version - and then
3d Canvas LP
and 3d Canvas Pro

"3D Canvas is a freeware program. No registration is required.

Use of 3D Canvas is limited by the 3D Canvas License Agreement.

3D Canvas LP and 3D Canvas Pro include all of the features of 3D Canvas plus these additional features:

Boolean Operations
Object Subtraction
Object Intersection
Object Union
Object Blend
Object Bridge

Reduce Operation

Reduces the number of faces and points in an object while maintaining object detail. In the example below an imported object had its point count reduced from 6000 to 1000 with little affect on the shape of the object.

Clone Operation
Split Point Operation
Tip Operation
Triangulate Operation
Trim Operation
Bevel Operation
Bulge Operation
Flatten Operation
Mirror Operation
Shear Operation
SnapScale Operation
Unwrap Operation

Used to create a texture that can be painted in a Paint program and applied to an object.

UV Map Operation

Permits manipulation of texture wrapping coordinates.

Solidify Operation
Optimize Operation
Weld Operation

Used to weld two or more points into a single point.

Scale Operation
Provides more flexibility than scaling with the Edit Control.

Shift Operation

Provides more flexibility than shifting with the Shift Tool including the ability to apply a rotational shift.

Center Operation

Improves accuracy over using the Shift tool for centering objects on their frame.

Twist Operation

ActiveX Plug-in support for third party created extensions to 3D Canvas.

3D Canvas Pro includes all of the features of 3D Canvas and 3D Canvas LP plus these additional features:

Particle Operation

Used to apply a particle effect using a simple object as a model particle.

Burst Operation

Swirl Operation

NURBS Surfaces

Terrain Tool

Two additional bone types (Rounded Cylindrical and Spherical)

Animation Timeline

Anti-Aliasing rendering of Videos and Snapshots

Export of a animations as a series of images. This allows for the creation of animated GIFs using a third-party program, or post-processing effects such as motion blur.

Additional import and export formats.

Creation of animated skeletons using BioVision Motion Capture (bvh) files.

Support for raytraced rendering using the POV-Ray raytracing engine and the Blue Moon Rendering Tools (BMRT) raytracing engine. POVRay and BMRT are superb free raytracing engine that are capable of producing photo-realistic images.

Scripting using VBScript, JScript (&#106avascript) or any other scripting language that supports the Windows Script Host.<br><br> <br> Post Rendering effects using Photoshop Filters<br><br> <br> Motion Blur in recorded Animations.<br><br> <br> Radiosity Lighting when rendering using the POV-Ray raytracing engine.<br><br> <br> Atmospheric Effects when rendering using the POV-Ray raytracing engine.<br><br> <br> Additional POVRay material attributes including Brilliance, Reflection, Iridescence, Roughness, Metallic and Patterns including Bumps, Dents, Ripples and Wrinkles.<br><br> <br> Refraction when rendering using the POV-Ray raytracing engine.<br><br> <br> Focal Blur when rendering using the POV-Ray raytracing engine.<br> <br> "<br><br>

3D Studio Max is the best that I seen, and used! I really liked its interface and the basics are easy to learn. http://www.discreet.com

"The original Doom was a really significant jump in gaming technology for the time. We were making really big strides almost every single game, every year, and Doom was kind of a significant inflection point for things because all of a sudden the world...was vivid enough that normal people could look at a computer game and understand what computer gamers were always excited about."
