Cartoon physics/enemies
Not really a question, more a vision that I want describe. (ie. games I'd like to see someday), and it is easier to see what I am considering if you've played games like Thief, System Shock etc.
It would be interesting to see a crossbreed between the kind of *worlds and enemies* of Platformers and more "simulation/system" based games. When I talk of the "simulation" type games, I mean games such as Thief, Deus Ex, System Shock 2(and also Half-Life), where these games set up a world that runs on certain principles and the items interact with each other. Such as in Thief, the guards will become "alert" for danger if they see a unconscious body. This means that the player has to hide bodies of characters that they have knocked out somewhere where they won't be found. And they have physics systems where if you throw something it may knock something else.. etc.
Now the element of platform games (etc.) that I am concentrating on is that they are set up to provide a varied challenge, where there are many different enemies that have specific attacks (ie. Rhinos charge at you, birds of prey divebomb you etc
So I think that it would be interesting to see a cross between these two types of universe, Ie. a universe that runs on its own laws rather than "special case" rules. With an over-the-top setting / monsters.
To an extent Mario 64 and Zelda TOOT approach this mixture, but they don't have as much in the way of player interaction / the world functioning on its own (as I am envisaging).
For example imagine a 1stPP /3rdPP game based around the POKEMON monsters, where instead of being a turn based game the game allowed you the player to try to sneak by them, or distract them by throwing boxes somewhere else -which would attract them by the noise.. Or attract an enemy that likes to fight that type of enemy (ie. spiders eat flies? etc.)
